I strongly believe in imperfection.  When I make my art I strive for it, and it’s through the organic process of my drawings that the distortions and imperfections of my subjects come to the surface.  I make art to challenge normalcy, to show that there is something fascinating about imperfection, outside of our perceptions of what is beautiful or what is normal.

It’s only on close inspection of a subject that its flaws become visible, and because my style of drawing necessitates detailed observation, the outcome is an often distorted, sometimes grotesque version of what we expect to see.  I want to challenge the assumptions that we make every day because we don’t pay close attention – we take shortcuts; we jump to conclusions based on what we’ve learnt, what we know, and what we’ve come to expect.  When I draw, I don’t expect to create a realistic rendering of the subject, and this allows the line to speak for itself, freeing me from the pressure of perfection.
